Wrexham AFC Co-Owner Furious At Abandoned Aldershot Match

One of the chairmen of Wrexham AFC posted a foul-mouthed reaction after the team’s match against Aldershot Town was abandoned due to poor pitch conditions.

In the post on Twitter, Rob McElhenney made an “official statement” that the team need to “get out of this *** league” after the referee called the game off in the 52nd minute.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson was also disappointed that the game could not be finished, and criticised the groundskeepers for being difficult to find.

With Wrexham leading the fixture 2-0, players were seen mopping and brushing the field to try and remove standing water from the waterlogged pitch at EBB Stadium, albeit to no avail.

The match has officially been postponed with the date and time for the next fixture still to be confirmed.

Not long after this initial response, Mr McElhenny lessened his tone in a follow-up, noting that Aldershot’s volunteer groundskeepers did all they could to keep the game going in increasingly difficult conditions.

Mark Molesley, Aldershot Town’s manager, went as far as to call the conditions “completely unplayable” in defence of the referee’s decision.

This is not the only way Wrexham AFC have made the news recently, as the team became one of the only non-league teams to make it into EA Sports’ FIFA 22 game.

As a result, storage in Wrexham has been filled with the game as it went on sale at the start of October 2021.

As well as this, the team released a statement criticising a very small minority of fans who caused disruption at recent matches, revealing that the team are facing disciplinary charges for the conduct.
