The Dove, a micropub in Rhyl, has revealed that it plans to expand significantly throughout 2019.
Business News Wales revealed that the owners, Dovecote Brewery, who opened the Dove just one year ago, have their sights set on having 12 bars up and running by the end of this year.
Following the success of the Dove, three more micropubs were opened by the brewery, and now it seems that they’re planning to add a further eight to their portfolio.
The brewery, which is based in Denbigh, opened another Dove in Prestatyn, as well as two more bars in Abergele and Rhuddlan, which were christened the Hoptimist. These latter two bars were opened in collaboration with the Cwrw lal Brewery.
Richard Green, owner of the Dovecote Brewery, told the news provider that the reason he branched out into micropubs was to give small craft breweries somewhere they could sell their products, noting that it can be difficult to get craft beers into pubs owned by larger chains.
He also pointed to a growing trend among consumers who want to know where their food and drink comes from, as well as that it’s local when possible.
“We knew there was an appetite for a better quality product and wanted to offer an alternative, more natural local craft ale so we decided to open the Dove micropub where we stock beers from 42 Welsh craft breweries and a few from over the border in North-West England,” Mr Green stated.
The Dove isn’t the only micropub finding success in this part of the country. North Wales Live reported that Conwy Brewery opened its MASH micropub on its Llysfaen site this month too.
