A flock of sheep that found their way to the Kingsland area of Shrewsbury have been reunited with their owner after an appeal in a local paper.

The Shropshire Star reports that the 14 sheep were found by walkers on Monday 27 December, and were herded into a nearby field, owned by Glyn Jones, who said he would keep them safe until he could track down the owner of the lost woolly animals.

However, days passed, and Glyn was not having much success, so appealed to readers of the Shropshire Star for help. He was inundated with calls, from people offering advice to others willing to help look after them.

Thankfully, the owner of the lost flock had seen the story and contacted Glyn before taking the flock back home after their mini-adventure, back to their field elsewhere in the town.

Glyn, who is currently restoring Mount House, the birthplace of Shrewsbury’s most famous son, Charles Darwin, said he was grateful for the offers of help from residents. He said that the story caused a lot of interest and that he received around 50 calls and text messages from people.

“One caller suggested getting in touch with the RSPCA. Another thought they might have come from a field in Church Stretton, but I don’t think they’d make it that far,” he said.

“All the calls have been really supportive and positive.”
