Gwrych Castle in North Wales has enjoyed a high profile lately, as it provided an alternative filming location for the popular ITV show I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! Past series have been filmed in Australia, but it was switched to Gwrych Castle near Abergele last year amid the coronavirus restrictions.

The current series of the hit TV show is being filmed at the castle again this year, amid rumours that ITV may make it a permanent fixture, or film in Wales and Australia in alternate years. Last year’s show was considered a success, and a source told The Sun newspaper that the new location might be kept on to keep things ‘fresh and interesting.’

The source commented: “It’s been really challenging for everyone involved just to get the show on air this year, but it’s given producers a chance to reflect and take stock more than usual. They’ve loved trying new things with a different location and the idea of having alternate years has been discussed.”

They added: “It means that next year Ant and Dec would be back in the traditional jungle, before returning to Wales again the following year. It depends a lot on how viewers like this coming series, but everyone is confident it’ll be more loved than ever given its new twists.”

Meanwhile, the castle is gearing up for a haunting new enterprise next year. Wales Online reports that ghoulish goings on at the castle will now be open to the public, when it runs ‘ghost tours’ between March and December 2022. Paranormal equipment used by ghost hunters, such as dowsing rods and K2 metres will be available.

The castle has a spooky reputation, with many people reporting sightings of a phantom figure passing through the chapel. Gwrych Castle was built between 1810 and 1825 by Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh, but has become semi-derelict in recent years.
