The hospitality sector has suffered badly during the pandemic, with lockdown meaning that businesses of all shapes and sizes have had to close their doors for months and try to find a new way of operating to help keep their dreams alive.

One chef who did just that is Alex Vincenzo Miraglia, who came to the UK last year after working at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Milan with plans in mind to branch out on his own. But, of course, with lockdown his plans had to change – and quickly.

So, instead of resting on his laurels, Mr Miraglia set up Altieri Catering and now runs his Italian mobile catering business from the Lock Stock Storage Park on Saltney’s River Lane, which has kept his business going through lockdown.

He moved his trailer and portable brick-lined pizza oven from our site in Saltney to the drive of his house in Hoole in Chester, soon filling the air with delicious smells of baking pizza dough, cooking and delivering up to 100 pizzas a day over busy weekends.

The 33-year-old’s Italian-made wood-fired brick oven can reach heats of up to 500 degrees C and can turn out 120 pizzas an hour – which is two delicious pizzas in less than a minute!

He said: ““Lock Stock in Saltney is a perfect place for us – we keep our catering vehicles here as it’s a great location and very secure.

“For now the takeaways are doing well and some days we have three of us here preparing and cooking the pizzas with two on deliveries to a six-mile radius. If we’re not too busy we can get a genuine Italian pizza to you piping hot in 20 minutes – how’s that for service.”
